El Consell d'Arquitectes d'Europa i el COAC planten l'Arbre de la Benvinguda al Centre Kālida Sant Pau
En acabar la visita al Centre Kālida, el CAE i el COAC van dur a terme conjuntament la plantada de l'Arbre de la Benvinguda, símbol de la funció social dels arquitectes i de l'aportació de l'arquitectura al medi ambient i a la salut de les persones. L'acte va comptar amb la participació de Georg Pendl, president del CAE; Sandra Bestraten, presidenta de la Demarcació de Barcelona del COAC; Guim Costa, vocal de la Junta de Govern; i Joan Reventós, director de la Fundació Kālida, a més de diversos representants de les institucions membres del CAE.
Fundació Kālida
El Centre Kālida Sant Pau, ubicat al Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau, ha estat projectat per l'arquitecta Benedetta Tagliabue i es va inaugurar el passat mes de maig. El Centre, que té les portes obertes a totes les persones amb càncer i als seus familiars, ofereix acompanyament social i emocional i un lloc d'estada per als malalts i les seves famílies.
L'edifici és un clar exemple de com l'arquitectura i la salut van de la mà. Ha estat pensat com un pavelló jardí en el qual els límits entre interior i exterior es desdibuixen. El disseny d’interiors, que ha comptat amb el suport de Patricia Urquiola, ha permès dotar aquest espai obert i flexible d’una atmosfera càlida i amable, que transmeti sensacions dinàmiques i positives als seus usuaris.

The COAC hosts the General Assembly of the Architects’ Council of Europe
On 22 November, the Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE) will be holding its General Assembly at the COAC’s headquarters in Plaça Nova. The 43 organisations that form part of the Council, including the CSCAE (the Higher Council of Architects’ Associations of Spain), will all be participating.
Several accompanying events have been organised around the Assembly, some of which will be open to the general public. The most notable of these are the closing event at Espai Simon 100, on 22 November, and the Young Architects' Forum, on 23 November at the COAC.
The programme of activities also includes organised tours for the delegates of the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site, the Kàlida Centre, the Institute for Research in Biomedicine, Pavelló de la República CRAI Library, and Casa Bloc in Sant Andreu.
Architects’ Council of Europe
The ACE, which was founded in 1990, is made up of the representative and regulatory national institutions of European Union Member States, plus Switzerland and Norway.
Through its member organisations, the ACE represents the interests of more than 600,000 architects in 31 countries, oversees the promotion of architecture in Europe, and upholds architectural quality and the sustainable development of our built environment. It also advocates for quality in professional practice and cross-border cooperation.

The Association presents the 2019 COAC Medals to 48H Open House and the Jordi Capell Architects’ Cooperative
The Governing Board of the Architects’ Association of Catalonia has decided to award the 2019 COAC Medals to 48H Open House and the Jordi Capell Architects’ Cooperative. With this distinction, the COAC recognises the work undertaken by both entities in sharing information on architectural heritage, architects and architecture.
The COAC Medals are the institutional distinction awarded by the Architects’ Association of Catalonia in recognition of individuals' or entities' contributions to the progress of architecture or the COAC itself.
This year, one of the Medals was awarded to 48H Open House, an event promoted by a non-profit cultural association, 'for its efforts to share the city of Barcelona's architectural heritage and to promote architecture as an essential component of culture'.
This cultural festival, which was visited by more than 60,000 people in 2019, is one of the most successful events of its kind in Barcelona. The award also recognises the volunteer architects who help to raise the general public’s awareness of the values of architecture.
A Medal was also awarded to the Jordi Capell Architects’ Cooperative 'for its contribution to promoting architecture, providing services for architects from a cooperative perspective to provide them with the products to do their jobs, most notably a specialist bookshop on architecture, which has been in operation for 40 years and is now regarded as one of the best bookshops on architecture'.
Furthermore, in response to the diversification of architects' professional practices in order to provide additional services, the Cooperative has become a store specialising in products designed by architects. Since 1979 it has been situated in Plaça Nova, the headquarters of the Architects’ Association of Catalonia, and during these years it has maintained a close and abiding relationship with the COAC’s regional offices, at all times displaying the willingness to serve that characterises it.
In recognition of contributions to the world of architecture
Since 2009, the COAC has regularly awarded the COAC Medals to individuals or entities that have contributed to raising the profile and progress of architecture. Since that time, the Medals have been awarded to individuals such as former deans Francesc Labastida and Joan B. Mur; organisations such as Construmat and ARQUIN-FAD; political figures such as Josep Rull or Santi Vila; and even the Parliament of Catalonia for its contribution in the form of the enactment of the Law on Architecture.

El COAC acull l'Assemblea General del Consell d'Arquitectes d'Europa
Amb motiu de l'Assemblea, s'han organitzat diversos actes paral·lels, alguns dels quals estan oberts al públic. El més destacat és la festa de cloenda a l'Espai Simon 100, el 22 de novembre, i la conferència Young Architects's Forum, el 23 de novembre al COAC. Més informació.
