BOOK LAUNCH OF 'ARXIU HISTÒRIC COL·LEGI D’ARQUITECTES DE CATALUNYA. DIBUIXOS D’ARQUITECTURA. DIBUJOS DE ARQUITECTURA. ARCHITECTURAL DRAWINGS'
To mark the 50th anniversary of the creation of the Historical Archive of the Architects’ Association of Catalonia we have published a book that contains a selection of the collection of nearly two million documents held in the Archive’s repositories.
The book contains 155 emblematic drawings from a broad historical period, ranging from an elevation of the Mountain of Montserrat—showing the location of its buildings in 1778—to a watercolour for a project in Bordeaux in 2018 by the RCR architectural practice. All the illustrations are accompanied by a brief technical description and the basic biographical details of the architect in question.
For the occasion, 39 people—mainly architects, but also professionals from other disciplines such as photography, art history and fine art, among others—were asked to write something about the chosen drawings. The works selected are thus further enhanced by a complementary point of view.
The purpose of the publication is to create a little treasure: an opulent book with outstanding print quality that will make the perfect gift for slow, leisurely perusal. The book will be available for purchase on the same day as the launch at an authorised stand, and from 18 December from the Jordi Capell Cooperative.
Talks between some of the authors to present the book
On Tuesday 17 December at 7pm, as part of the celebrations for the fiftieth anniversary of the Historical Archive, we will be presenting the book entitled Arxiu Històric Col·legi d’Arquitectes de Catalunya. Dibuixos d’Arquitectura. Dibujos de Arquitectura. Architectural Drawings.
The book launch will take the form of a conversation between three of the authors of some of the texts: architects Irma Arribas and Carolina B. Garcia-Estévez and photographer Manolo Laguillo, and the joint publisher of the book, Josep Ferrando, also an architect and the member of the COAC's cultural programme.

Christmas at the COAC: Activity programme
The Christmas activities will kick off on 21 December with the Christmas Carols Workshop. This fun activity is coordinated by the Choir of Catalan Architects!
The COAC is taking part for the third time in The City of Dreams by organising architectural workshops. From 27 to 30 December and 2 to 4 January, come along to the Fira de Barcelona to build a healthy, green, inclusive city where we can make our dreams come true!
Finally, on 31 December, the Large-Scale Construction Workshops will be back in Plaça Nova. Using the Kapla game, we will be building some amazing constructions with wooden pieces! There is one session between 11am and 1pm and another from 4pm to 6pm.
This year, the "Young Architects" activity will take place as part of the Vic Children’s Festival in a new format. It will be a way of bringing architecture even closer to children as well as giving them more activities to enjoy! This activity will be held on 27, 28, 29 and 30 December and on 1, 2 and 3 January at the trade fair venue El Sucre.
The COAC launches arquitectura catalana.cat, the digital archive of modern and contemporary architecture
The COAC is launching arquitecturacatalana.cat, the digital archive of modern and contemporary Catalan architecture. The aim is to make Catalan architectural heritage more accessible to both architects and the general public.
On the portal you will be able to consult around 2,000 works in the geographic area of Catalonia, corresponding to 1,200 architectural practices and studios, constructed between 1838—the year the first industrial chimney was built in Catalonia—and the present day. The website was created as a living tool that will be constantly updated and expanded to include the most interesting contemporary works, while at the same time enlarging its content progressively towards the past.
The portal is fed by numerous sources, primarily from the generosity of architectural practices and photography studios, but also from the Guide to Modern Architecture in Catalonia 1880-2007 and part of the records of DOCOMOMO and the Quaderns journal, among other publications and awards based in Catalonia such as the FAD Awards and the international EU Mies Award. In addition, the Historical Archive of the COAC has also provided content for the new portal, with valuable documents that in some cases have never been published before now. All of them, among many others, have been key to creating what will be the most comprehensive online collection on the subject of Catalan architecture.
Discover architecture with arquitecturacatalana.cat
The new online platform offers a simple, intuitive browsing experience to meet the needs of both architects who are familiar with the collections and works, and the general public, who can use the portal as a means of discovering and exploring modern and contemporary Catalan architecture. For the public, tools have been designed such as reference recommendations, a map with advanced filters, intuitive timelines and clusters for linking architects and works.
With all these tools, users can find detailed information about the works and their architects, including plans, drawings, images and a related bibliography. This will not only help to showcase the most significant works but also shine a spotlight on lesser-known ones in modern and contemporary Catalan architecture.
