42nd AADIPA Heritage Course
For the last 41 years, the Association of Architects for the Defence and Intervention in Architectural Heritage (AADIPA) of the Architects’ Association of Catalonia (COAC) has been organising the course 'International Seminars on Interventions in Architectural Heritage'. This involves a number of study seminars on the most noteworthy architectural heritage in Europe, and has achieved considerable reach and prestige.
This year, from 12 to 15 December, we will be holding the 42nd edition, titled 'Educational Architectural Heritage. Restoration and interventions in historical learning spaces. Challenges and opportunities'. The intention this year is to spark reflection and debate about the need to highlight this type of heritage: school and university buildings, from their relationship with their city to their interior spaces, on both a local and international scale. The seminars seek to gain an understanding of how the transformations (or even abandonment) of these buildings has influenced their values, and to study examples of restoration and intervention that have added active educational value.
To achieve these objectives, we will have the support of cases explained by local, national and international experts from different professional disciplines related to this particular field.

2nd edition of 'Architecture in the Classrooms'. Our aim is for children and young people to enjoy Architecture Week 2020
Following the success of the first Architecture in the Classrooms, which involved 65 schools and 4,000 students, we will be bringing architecture to primary and secondary schools once again with the collaboration of the Barcelona Education Consortium.
We will be holding a series of workshops and talks, given by architects during school hours, so the students can observe, consider and follow the thread of the architecture in their immediate surroundings. The aim is to give children a new perspective of the spaces they inhabit every day, to get them excited, encourage relationships and generate inclusion dynamics.
Potential topics
The activity will be based on three main concepts—body, habitat and territory—which will be explored transversally through a choice of themes:
· Modern architecture
· Public spaces
· Inclusive cities: cities for everyone
· Local architecture
· Architecture today
Are you an architect or architectural student and would like to take part?
If you’re an architect or architectural student, you can take part by giving one of the workshops or talks. You don’t need any previous experience. Sign up before 29 November!
